Too Far Behind to Get Caught Up

By: Martha | October 7th, 2008

[Team picture, finally out! Click for gigantor size, and to see Cyril #1 looking like a gremlin.]

Please forgive me, but I’m so utterly out of the loop that I’m not even going to try to catch up on all the things I’ve missed over the past two weeks. I know that, after a great start, Nice have now given up three leads and taken just two points from their last three L1 matches, and also that, though everyone at the club denies the agony of what happened in Lyon has anything to do with the recent downturn, they also know (the uniformity of opinion within the team is sort of alarming, actually) they are struggling mentally right now. All of which, on the most superficial level, means this is the best possible time for an international break, particularly with Monaco looming.

While the internationals are off trying to qualify for various things — among others, Rémy’s with the Baby Bleus, Adu and Quansah are expected to join the U-20 Back Stars, and if I could find a list of the African call-ups, I’d share those, too — Letizi and Cohen went golfing, and of all improbable events, Patrick Barul and Matt Moussilou are back with the first team (this just as rumors of a Moussilou loan to Le Havre appear). Barul and Moussilou and the rest all traveled to St Martin Vésubie today for a mini-camp; they’ll return to Nice after training on Thursday.

Since I won’t be able to get myself to Nice for the launch (With Cyril #1 and Ospina!) of the new, all-black kit on the 15th, I instead will watch the Sochaux match, and go back to trawling Nice forums constantly, with my “translate” button close at hand, and get back in the habit of this blogging thing.

No, no applause. Please.

That black kit looks awesome. Black kits always look sharp. Pity about all the sponsors though. :(
