Weekend Reading Material, Cyril #1, and a Horse

By: Martha | July 5th, 2008

It’s a been a nice, quiet weekend so far — apart from the rumors that Baky pulled out of training yesterday, there’s been no news.* So, in lieu of transfer drama, here are a few Nice links I’ve come across this week. And, also a completely ridiculous picture of picture Cyril Rool (from this point to be known as Cyril #1), just because I can.

•Football365.fr did an interview with Nicolas Dyon, Nice’s athletic trainer, about how he approaches pre-season training, and what the team will go through over the next several weeks. It’s actually pretty interesting for the anoraks among us, and there’s more on Dyon’s approach (as well as fairly hilarious pictures of him in Working!poses) on his website.

Olivier Echouafni, the man Google translate calls “the oldest eaglet,” has such a great attitude about the upcoming season that it’s hard not to catch his optimism. (Reason #231 he wears the armband.)

•And, finally, because letting go is hard, here’s a recent interview with our dear, departed Ederson about his role at Lyon, how happy is it to still be playing with a certain keeper (Aw!), and his hopes for getting into the Brazilian nation team. Sigh.

*If it really happened, whether you think it was to show how much he really wants to join Marsellie or because of a niggling ankle injury that’s been bothering him for a while obviously depends on your perspective on Baky and his Situation. Me, I’m going to be naive and hope it was the latter.

HE IS GORGEOUS. (Though both you and I already knew that)

Definitely playing for OL will get Ederson a step closer to the NT.

That’s one of my favorite pictures of him, the happiness is hilarious.

That’s true — the higher profile should help Eder a ton. He says he’s in the list of 50 from which they’ll take the Olympic team and that he’d go if they ask him, but that’s the closest he’s been, as far as I know, apart from some youth stuff.

Thanks, Richard, appreciate it! (And, yeah, that was NOT his finest moment — I can’t really blame you.)

Baky basically knows Marseille wants him bad and has agreed on his salary. But everytime Marseille and Paris are in the mix, clubs are cranking the prices to squeeze us. Lyon uses other methods but Marseille won’t budge and the fact that Nice refusess to be reasonnable is a shame.

BTW this will be my official stance even though I believe 12 million is fair for a player like Koné.

Understood, Magnusson — will not breathe a word of the unofficial opinion to anyone outside this comment thread (I do appreciate it, though). The salary numbers I’ve seen are almost triple what he makes @ Nice, so it’s easy to understand why he’d agree to that, though they obviously won’t matter if it can’t be sorted between the clubs.

FWIW, Baky did NOT travel with the team last night.
