Heading Out Old Qatar Way
By: Martha | September 5th, 2008
As promised, Joseph-Desire Job is headed to Qatar: He’s been sold to Al Kharaitiyat, a club whose official website has been suspended, apparently for failure to pay hosting costs. I hope that’s not a sign of how good they are about paying salaries. Even more strangely, the team doesn’t appear in FIFA’s table of the Qatar league — it does still exist, doesn’t it? Is there a L2 equivalent in Qatar? Anyone?
Job arrived at Nice last August and played in just nine matches, starting three times and making six appearances as a sub, including a trio of appearances that lasted less than five minutes total. It’s been known from the start of training this summer that he wanted to leave since he had no future at Nice; hopefully this move will be good for him (assuming Al Kharaitiyat actually exists).
And, in incidental Cyril news, #1 is riding a Nice scooter at ogcnice.tv for some reason (anyone who speaks French and watches that clip, please explain what’s going on), and #2 is suspended for the Lyon match.
ETA: Thanks to Jeremy, we now know that Al Kharaitiyat not only exist, but also have recently been promoted to the top division in Qatar. Now if they’d just settle up that hosting bill …

That’s just brilliant. What’s the point of transferring to a poor Qatari club? It’s like going to Wendy’s for a salad.

God only knows. Maybe there was a translation problem? He thought he was going to Saudi Arabia?

LOL Wendy’s salad. That was good.
I hope he’s not making a bad choice.

They were just promoted, so maybe the boys down at FIFA are a little behind, or don’t really care about Qatar.

Ah, thank you Jeremy — will edit the post.
